This family used their dining room frequently but the doorway between the kitchen and dining room seemed so small. They hired us to widen it about 18 inches.
With minimal destruction, we widened the doorway: we had to move the security pad and a light switch. We opened the door way walls on the kitchen side and added new headers and additional framing. After closing it up, we re-attached the trim and added matching trim to the kitchen side which had been trimmed in window trim. Next we had to re-build the wainscotting on each side of the newly opened doorway and match the hardwood floors.
The result: a gorgeous wide opening that looks like it was there from the original build.
